A portfolio link helps only if a recruiter sees it and it opens. Most links fail for one of two reasons: they sit where readers skip, or they are formatted in a way that breaks once the PDF is parsed.
Where to put it
Put it in the contact line at the top, next to your email, phone and LinkedIn. Recruiters look there for links, and parsers look there for contact details. Keep that line in the body of the page, since some systems skip the document header.
Example contact line: "Asha Rao · Pune · asha.rao@email.com · +91 90000 00000 · linkedin.com/in/asharao · dossier-cv.com/u/asharao".
Format it so it works
- Write the address out as visible text, without https:// or www. "dossier-cv.com/u/asharao" reads cleanly and still parses as a link.
- Make it clickable in the PDF too. In Word or Google Docs, select the text and attach the full https:// address.
- Avoid hiding the address behind a single word such as "Portfolio". Parsers and printed copies keep the visible text and lose the link behind it.
- Use a short, lowercase address with your name in it. Long share links with tracking codes look like spam.
- Test it: export the PDF, open it on your phone and tap the link.
Link single projects as well
If a project on your resume has its own page, such as a live app, a GitHub repository or a case study, add that address at the end of the entry: "Attendance app for 120 NSS volunteers · github.com/asharao/attendance". A recruiter curious about one project can go straight to it.
What to write next to it
In the contact line, the address alone is enough. In your summary you can point to it once with a reason to click: "Case studies with before-and-after screens at dossier-cv.com/u/asharao." Name what the reader will find there. "Check out my portfolio!" gives them nothing to go on.
Application forms and LinkedIn
Most online application forms have a separate field for a website or portfolio. Fill it in even though the link is already on your resume, because recruiters often see the form fields before they open the file. On LinkedIn, add the link to your Featured section and to the contact info on your profile.
Check before you send
- Every link opens on a phone, with no login.
- The portfolio shows the same job titles and dates as the resume.
- The page loads quickly and reads well on a small screen.
- The page title carries your name, so the browser tab and search results show whose site it is.
Questions people ask
- Should I put my portfolio link on my resume?
- Yes, if the page shows work that backs up the resume. Put it in the contact line at the top, next to your email and LinkedIn.
- Do hyperlinks work in an ATS?
- Most applicant tracking systems keep the visible text of a link and drop the click. Write the address out as text instead of hiding it behind a word, and the recruiter can still find it.
- Should I use a QR code for my portfolio on a resume?
- Only as an extra on printed copies for career fairs or interviews. Parsers cannot read a QR code, so keep the written address as well.
