Using Margin

Why the dates sit left

A left date column lets a reader run down your timeline in one glance and spot gaps or overlaps at once. Typical CurVe-style CVs set the date first in the text, which can attach it to the wrong job; Margin writes the role first and only draws the date on the left.

How to fill it

Keep date ranges short (Mar 2022 to Present) so they fit the column on two lines at most. Give each role two to four bullets with a number. Put degree and institution in Education the same way, so the timeline continues.

When to pick another

If your history has many overlapping roles, a right-aligned date (Ledger) reads more clearly. For a dense US-style one-pager, use Plain.

Words to use

The layout is half of it. For the terms recruiters search for, see the keyword lists for software engineer, data analyst and project manager resumes.

About Margin

Do parsers read a left date column correctly?

In our tests every role came out of the PDF before its employer and dates, on all samples, densities and paper sizes. The results and date are on this page.

Is this the moderncv layout?

It follows the same idea of a date column on the left. The Typst code is our own, and the reading order is different on purpose.

Can I use it for a US job?

Yes. Pick the US format and it switches to Letter paper and US date style. The layout stays the same.
